  • How Long Are The Classes? <<Click here>>

    • Classes will be one hour long, once a week in 6 week sessions.

  • Who should Take This Class? <<Click here>>

    • Those new to Belly Dance or this style of Belly Dance; those with Belly Dance experience who wish to stay sharp with the foundational movements.  Anyone looking for fun, fitness and self empowerment or anyone who has said "I'd like to try that" or would like to try something new.

  • Why Should I Take This Class? <<Click here>>

  • What Is The Average Age Of People In Your Classes? <<Click here>>

    • I have had people as young as 12 and people in their 70’s take my Belly Dance classes.

    • In any given class, there are a wide range of ages, back grounds, body types and interests.  (To answer some common questions related to this statement:  No, there are not only college students or only middle aged women in class- the population is diverse.)

    • Once in a while, a man will sign up for class, but typically, there are all females in class.

  • What Do I Wear To Class? <<Click here>>

    • Dress for class is any dance or exercise wear that is not too baggy.

    • I need to be able to see what you are doing to assess alignment and proper mechanics.

    • Yoga Pants, Tank Tops, and the like are excellent choices.

    • Baggy tee shirts, jeans, khakis, cords, baggy sweats and the line are not acceptable.

    • A triangular cotton or rayon scarf (or a square one that can be folded into a triangle) is helpful to tie around your hips for definition

    • You are not required to show your belly, however, the more I can see, the more I can help you.

    • While skirts are great for performances they cover up too much and make it difficult for you and I to check proper form, posture, and mechanics.  Also, be aware that we start with a yoga warm up, and skirts may inhibit your movement.

    • Please leave any noisy costume pieces, such as coin scarves or belts at home.  These are nice for performances and home practice but they can be distracting in class.

  • What Class Do I Take After I Complete The 6 Week Session? <<Click here>>

    • Most students repeat the basic 6 week session a few times to master the the basic techniques before moving on to a higher level class.

    • Because Belly Dance is so ancient, there are copious basic moves and concepts to learn.

    • You will not learn all you need to know in one 6 week session, just as it takes more than 6 weeks to master the basics of ballet or a musical instrument.

    • No two "6 week sessions" are the same.  Each new Basic Belly Dance Technique session will cover different material.  You will review key moves and concepts crucial for a strong foundation (and safety), but also learn new ones.

    • You will also have the opportunity to take workshops to add to your repertoire.

    • Purchasing and using Narah and Jala’s Technical foundation DVD will help reinforce what you learn in class and help you advance more quickly.
